The Best Songs for Yoga

I, like many of my readers, love to do yoga. I’ve noticed that we’ve sometimes even referred to ourselves as “yogis.” While people who don’t practice yoga may think that we only care about kale salads and hybrid cars, we do plenty of good things for society. I know that my own personal interests range from iPhone spy app recommendations to the newest smartphones out on the market. Yoga helps me be more flexible, both physically and mentally.

There are a lot of people out there who aren’t able to deal with the stresses of life. As a result, they have all sorts of coping mechanisms to get through the day. Aside from yoga, keeping up with news in the iPhone spy app and technology industries helps me stay centered. I believe that that if you do want to start doing yoga, all you have to do is head to the mat and you’ll be fine. Some motivational songs don’t hurt, either. In my last post, I discussed my favorite workout songs from this past year. Now, here are some songs that I love to pair with my yoga sessions, and hopefully you will, too!

Between Me and You

This is a song by Brandon Flowers, one of the lead singers of The Killers. If you’re a fan of The Killers, you should give his solo music a try. I personally prefer it over his work with the band. This particular song has a lot of shifts in it, which makes it great for changing up a yoga session. It’s actually one of my favorite songs.

Wide Escape

This is a song by General Crush, featured on their album “A Wide Escape.” Like many other songs that are suitable for yoga, it has a slow pace and isn’t too distracting. That’s why plenty of other people out there really like this General Crush song, too. I definitely recommend this one if you’re looking to try some new music for yoga.

To Lay Me Down

You can enhance your yoga sessions with apps such as Spotify and an iPhone spy app.
Programs like iTunes or an iPhone spy app can help enhance your yoga sessions.

Perfume Genius is the artist of this song. It’s another relaxing tune that would not only be great for a yoga class, but also taking a leisurely drive down the road. You should give this Perfume Genius song a chance during your next late-night yoga session.

Stay Alive

Sung by Jose Gonzalez, this song was featured in the film “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.” This movie had such an amazing soundtrack, and I think that many of the songs would work for yoga. Stay Alive is a must if you want to add some new songs to your yoga playlist – I’m sure that you’ll be very happy with your song choice.

(121) Ascent

This is a song by Loud Harp, a band out of Salt Lake City, Utah. It’s an instrumental track that will help you focus during a yoga session. If you prefer instrumental tracks, then you should give this one a try.

For your convenience, all of these songs are available on Spotify, so you won’t have to go out of your way to download them. There are also numerous other songs out there that would work well for yoga practice. Do you have any that you’d like me to list on my blog? Just send me an email! I hope to hear from you.

Pocket Yoga

Much like the Yoga Studio app, Pocket Yoga features instructional videos that help teach you the different poses and breathing techniques.  Where they differ however is in the presentation.  Pocket Yoga features animated video (as opposed to Yoga Studio’s HD video) as well as in depth text descriptions for each pose.  These text descriptions are a helpful guide on proper form as well as the benefits of each pose.  Another cool feature of Pocket Yoga is it has full integration with the apple watch.  You can browse the pose database, look up descriptions and even watch the instructional videos all from your wrist.

Universal Breathing – Pranayama

Deep, diaphragmatic breathing is one of the most important aspects of yoga.  For some, mastering the different breathing techniques is more difficult than mastering the poses. If you’re one of these people, or if you just want to improve upon your deep breathing exercises, then this is the app for you.  The Pranayama app comes standard with helpful displays that instruct you on when to inhale/exhale and for how long.  There are also multiple difficulty settings and progression tracking to help you master the art of breathing.

Based upon parameters such as duration, level of difficulty, and pace, Down Dog will generate a custom routine just for you.  With a wide range of yoga poses in the app’s library you can be sure that you’ll have a new experience each time you use it.
